Since they are able to put in into their own words and relate to prior knowledge it is more likely that they will recall and understand the information. Harvey and Goudvis Their research states that when students use synthesizing as a comprehensions strategy while reading they use many skills and helps them build their reading development. Students develop and have time to collect their thought, identify the main idea(s), put information into own words, respond to the information, and combine what they just learned with what they already know.
