This video really hits on what think-pair-share is, but it does an awesome job and showing other teachers how to do it in their classroom.

Think pair share video that is done in a 7th grade math class. This video demonstrates how think-pair-share can be used in other subjects besides reading for comprehension of the content.

Definition: (TPS) is a
collaborative learning strategy that allows students to communicate and work
together to understand the reading or to solve a problem or answer a question
about an assigned reading after they individually think.
Purpose: To allow student the opportunity to share their idea, understand more in depth the reading or question through the communication with a partner. To teach students how to slow down their reading and really understand the content.
Tips:
Purpose: To allow student the opportunity to share their idea, understand more in depth the reading or question through the communication with a partner. To teach students how to slow down their reading and really understand the content.
Tips:
- Allow time first to think individually
- Have questions prepared for students
- Allow time for more than one student/group to share
- Discuss answer or questions after student share
How the strategy may be used in a lesson:
Lesson 1:
In Science- Have students use think, pair share when conducting an experimenter. It can be a way for students as a group to come up with a hypothesis, experimental question, etc. It will help students and group members be more prepared for the lesson and form a hypothesis that everyone in the group had input on.
Lesson 2:
Incorporate in Writing activity: Students use think, pair share to explore spelling patterns. This lesson uses the /a/ (short-a) sound, although any spelling pattern could be used, including words that include "qu," homophones, and compound words. Allowing students to think about the words that follow a pattern lets them become more invested in the lesson. It also results in a richer list of words than does the process of presenting students with a pre-made list of words that follow a given pattern.

Writing Component:
In this strategy students can take notes about the story or what they are thinking before they share with each other. Also, if the pairs are going to be presenting to the class what they think, it might be a good idea for the to write something down. Another way to writing can be used is by the use of a graphic organizer that the two students when they are paired together use.

Resources/Research:
McKellar- She states that using think-pair-shares in any classroom, but specifically to math, is helpful and helps students gain a better understanding of the content. When students are given the opportunity to share their ideas with someone and hear other ideas they are participated in active learning and collaboration.
According to Vygotsky students need the interaction and collaboration with others in order to deepen their understand and learn. His Social Development Theory support think-pair-share, because of the social interaction aspect. student are communicating with other, theretofore they are developing and enhancing their learning.
